The 2023 PPA Kansas City Open concluded last weekend amid the chaos facing professional pickleball. The tournament took place Thursday, August 24th, through Sunday, August 27th in Kansas City, Kansas. Despite things “returning to normal” with Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters renewing their Triple Crown status, there were some unexpected upsets early on in men’s singles, mixed doubles, and women’s doubles.
Most recently, the APP traveled to the windy city for The 2023 APP Chicago Open. Newer names again filled the podium with players in men’s singles, women’s doubles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles all earning their first gold. In addition to his gold in men’s singles, Jaume Martinez Vich also secured spot number five ✋ on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 for his impressive shot in game two of the men’s singles gold medal match.
